Dear Friends and Supporters,

I am excited to share a very special project that is close to our hearts. At the beginning of 2024, our Pediatric Surgery Department decommissioned a veteran yet fully functional C-Arm from our operating room. This mobile X-ray device has reliably assisted us in countless surgeries—especially in treating fractures. Although we replaced it with a lower-radiation model, we knew that our trusted C-Arm still had a vital role to play.

In collaboration with UKSH and our association, Pamoja-Kinderchirurgie für Tanzania e.V., we decided to give this loyal machine a new lease on life. The plan was to donate the fully operational C-Arm to our partner clinic in Mbeya, Tanzania, where a mobile X-ray device was desperately needed. For the children there, this means a significant improvement in their medical care—a small yet meaningful step toward a brighter future.

The journey of the C-Arm was truly a community project, organized in several stages, almost entirely on a volunteer basis and without any additional costs:

  • Pick-up and Packaging: The company PTS Logistic took on the task of preparing our device safely and professionally for transportation.
  • Transport to Bremen: The C-Arm was safely transported from our clinic by UKSH using a dedicated transporter to Bremen.
  • Sea Transport: From Bremen, the device was shipped by sea to Tanzania, made possible by the assistance of CHS Container and our contact, Werner Pöser.
  • Customs and Freight Handling: The company Drewes took care of all necessary customs and freight formalities, ensuring the smooth delivery of our C-Arm to the partner clinic.

Here is a gallery of images documenting the entire process: from the careful packaging and transportation to its first use at the clinic. These photos capture the dedication and teamwork that made this charitable donation possible.

Upon its arrival in Mbeya, the C-Arm is already being used regularly in the operating room, providing an invaluable contribution to the medical care of local children—a powerful reminder that even outdated equipment can save lives.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to everyone who helped make this transport a success, and to you, dear readers, for your unwavering support. Together, we are ensuring that even in remote regions, children receive the best possible medical care.

Stay tuned for more insights into our work, and warm regards,

Your Pamoja Team
